Evolutionary Psychology
Evolutionary Psychology is the study of the biological and genetic origins of psychological mechanisms. It is an interdisciplinary subfield of Psychology, that developed from the collaboration of Biology, Anthropology, Psychiatry, and Psychology. It originated from William James' Functionalism.
Some of the research findings in Evolutionary Psychology are:
- We, humans, like sweets. This is because the sweetest and ripest fruits provide the highest available nutritional value for humans.
- Overeating is an adaptive mechanism. It prepares us from possible food scarcity in the future. This explains why a history of food deprivation predisposes a future risk for obesity.
