Titchener, Edward Bradford
Edward Bradford Titchener, a psychologist from Cornell University, developed Structuralism, one of the earliest scientific approaches in Psychology (along with Introspection and Functionalism). Structuralism involves identifying and analyzing the elements of mental processes. It developed from his training in introspection with Wilhelm Wundt, and his inspiration from the advancements in fields of chemistry and physics at that time. One of the mental processes he analyzed was the perception of taste according to the elements of taste sensation (e.g., sweet, salty, sour, and bitter).
